Gospel Reading: John 15: 9: 17

Christ chose to love us even though we are sinners.

When He was at the garden of Gethsemane, rather than following His own will, Christ chose to offer Himself in obedience to the Father as a proof of His love in action. Christ is the manifestation of TRUE LOVE. As He asked the Father of His will for Christ, we also need to ask God’s will for our lives in order for us to also become the manifestation of Christ’s love to the world.

Remaining in Christ’s love is not Christ’s choice, but it is our choice. He already made himself as the model of obedience because God said that if we truly love Him, we would obey His commandments. Christ is the very image of God’s love — Agape or Godly Love is our response from God to the people by doing what Christ commands us to do, which is to get closer to the outcasts of society. Visiting the prisoners, healing the sick, clothing the naked, feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, freeing from bondage the oppressed, and many more acts of kindness.

People will reward you of your goodness, but if people cannot give back, God will reward you for your good works. Manly love might result to manipulation, but in Godly love there is assurance because you are willing to die for the sake of others. Just like what Jesus did, He died on the cross for you and me — His friends. Then, the love for Jesus will make us to willingly and seriously offer our lives for the cause of Christ because we know that the reward for Christ’s love is eternal life.

Gospel Reading: John 15: 1- 8

“He is the Vine, we are the branches,” talks about a relationship. This relationship produces unity and assurance of the love of the Father, but also a privelege and responsibility as recipients of the divine life that we have received.

We become part of the plan of God to produce fruit. So, we have to be connected to the VINE, the only Source and produce quality fruits. Those who don’t bear fruit are not connected to the VINE.

Abide means to continue, to remain connected to God, if not, the life of God will not flow in us. He is also the vinedresser, the gardener. He prunes, He trims. God disciplines us, corrects us and it His work of love.

The Holy Spirit convicts us. Humbling circumstances to teach us that without God, we are nothing. He trims, sanctifies, refines us to be more fruitful in Him.

Our responsibility is to abide in Him, be faithful. It is a process like that of a marriage union. Daily communication, working out together. It takes time, test, and patience until they blend together. They have learned to walk together in unity. It takes daily cultivation of relationship.

Same with us, it’s a process to bear fruit. A daily practice of the Word of God, prayer, obedience, fellowship with the Holy Spirit. The Lord wants us to abide in Him, but it’s our decision to continue, to remain connected to the Lord. The result is, as we abide in Him and His Word abides in us, we become humble, we become forgiving, we become loving.

We prosper in all things even as our souls prospers. Our love for God changed, attitude changed, our service to Him changed. The result of our attitude or evidence of our abiding is the proof that we are bearing fruits. God’s life is flowing in and through us. Love and forgive now, do not wait until your Last breath.

Second Reading: 1 John 3: 16- 24

Psalm Reading: Psalm 23

Gospel Reading: John 10: 11-18

The gospel illustrates the love and compassion of our Lord Jesus Christ. It compares His personality to a Good Shepherd. A shepherd who is willing to take care of His flock, to bring the flock into greener pastures, to protect them, and to lay down His life for them.

The gospel also portrays us as defenseless flock. We only survive because of the care and protection of the shepherd. Apart from Him, we are prone to all the perils of life, and we can do nothing.

This gospel also differentiates the real shepherd from a hireling. The hireling only does his job because of the pay. He does not walk the extra mile and go beyond his work because there is no love and compassion for the flock.

Jesus Christ is our Good Shepherd and we are His flock. His flock knows His voice, because He gave us a relationship by giving us His Words, promises, and most especially His divine covenant.

Because of that covenant, we can walk in the valley of darkness, having confidence that He wil not leave us nor forsake us.

So as a flock, when we hear the voice of our Good Shepherd, we should not harden our heart.

If we follow the Good Shepherd, we will not go astray but will be led into the path of righteousness.

Gospel Reading: Luke 24 : 36b – 48

We, as Christians, must be witnesses of the resurrection of Jesus not just in words but in the way we live our lives. Let us not allow fear and doubt to confuse us for Jesus has given us His peace and His resurrection proven by the marks on His hands.

Being a witness for God is similar to martyrdom, where we die to ourselves for God and for others.

Let us therefore go and tell of what we have seen, heard and experienced about the resurrection of Jesus. Be a living witness of Jesus’ resurrection.

Psalm Reading: Psalm 118 : 2-4; 13 – 14; 21 – 23

Gospel Reading: John 20 : 19 – 31

The disciples were discouraged with what happened — the death of Jesus Christ. But then Jesus appeared to His disciples and manifested Himself to them saying, “Peace be with you.” He encouraged the disciples by saying that He is alive and there’s nothing to fear. Jesus came to give peace and restoration.

Thomas doubted the resurrection of Jesus Christ even if his fellow disciples already told him. He saw that even the apostles doubted in the resurrection of Jesus Christ as they gathered in the upper room for fear of the Jews. This is a challenge to us, believers, that if we truly believe in the resurrection of Christ, we should manifest it in our lives that Christ is truly alive! He is our Healer, our provider. What we say or believe must be seen in our lives because we live not in fear but in faith.

The Word of God is a sufficient basis for our faith. Faith is a choice that we have to make. The just shall live by faith.

Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Christ is risen!

The Lord is risen indeed! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Today, people – even Christians, are afraid because of this pandemic. They are afraid to be contaminated, become positive, and die. Two days ago, almost 15,000 were positive with COVID in our country. But we should not allow fear to dominate our life.

In our gospel today, Mary Magdalene was afraid because her Master died. John did not enter the tomb, he stayed outside the cave because he was also afraid. But thanks be to God Who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus!

Christ’s resurrection is the answer to all our fears. Our humanity was taken into Christ and nailed into the cross.

Jesus used the enemy’s weapon to destroy the enemy. In the story of David and Goliath, Goliath died by his own sword as David used it to cut his head off.

Fear will cause us to be afraid of losing something. Peter denied Jesus three times because he was afraid of losing his life. The rich young ruler did not sell all his possessions and follow Jesus because he was afraid of losing his wealth and possessions.

But God has not given us the spirit of fear but of power, love, and sound mind. Remember that there is much power in the light of God which is much greater than the power of darkness. AMEN!

-Fear destroys our faith in God. With fear, satan can easily manipulate and deceive us from the word of God.

-Jesus had missions, they were uncomfortable. Jesus, without fear, went to Jerusalem knowing what awaits Him, betrayal, rejection and crucifixion.

-We should keep the mission. Do the great commission.

-Let us focus on the presence of God, without it there is no use in spreading the Gospel.

To be devoted means to have strong love or loyalty for someone. Being devoted is what God seeking from us, His people.

Jesus is devoted to the calling and purpose of the Father in His life even to the point of death. He portrays His devotion to the Father, for us to imitate and follow Him. The Celebration of The Feast of the Passover shows worship of the people that are willing to perceive Jesus.

As they continue to keep coming to Jesus they see miracle upon miracle of healing, casting out demons, and multiplying supplies for the need of the people. Our continual coming to Christ is also the perceiving in our heart to know and understand Him. More than just seeking with the eye but knowing and following Him. His willingness to die to self becomes a pattern for His followers to imitate.

This work of dying to self is difficult and painful. The one who follow Jesus becomes a “servant”. The one who serves is the one who gives up his claim to life in the present world out of love for and allegiance to Jesus.To serve Jesus is in effect to “hate” one’s own life.

The road of glory is servanthood. When we imitate Jesus, we bear much fruit, we keep an eternal life, we join Jesus in His glory and the Father honors us. For God honors the servant rather than the ruler.

What we give to the Lord Jesus Christ is not a loss on our part but we gain what is the best. Temporal things in this world, what we are willing to surrender in this life for the sake of love, obedience and our devotion to God, cannot be compared to what God has prepared for us.

If the change that God is bringing about in this world is important to us, then we have to take definite steps in order to align ourselves for God’s purposes. For our time, for our generation especially the youth, we will not allow this time to pass without us participating to the fulfilling of God’s plan and purposes. To be devoted is service, humility, and sacrifice.

Things learned in summary: To be able to see changes in everything, we must first change.

Change must first be seen in our lives. We must live or walk in the truth and that will be manifested in the light or as we follow the truth we will come to the light.

New Testament Proclamation: 1 Corinthians 1 : 18 – 25

Gospel Proclamation: John 2 : 13 – 22

John is telling us the importance of worship. John begins by telling us the reason Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Passover is very important in the life of the Jews. He did so because the celebration of passover was a time when God’s power and protection to the Hebrews in Egypt was commemorated. Jerusalem is the place where they offer sacrifices & worship.

WORSHIP really matters with the Lord Jesus Christ even in His young age.

This means that worshippers would make their way to Jerusalem to the Temple to make sacrificial offering and worship to God.

VERSE14

Jesus is 30 years old at this time. Jesus was never against service. But He was against the poor being taken advantage of. It is no longer a service to the people, but it is already agreed on selfishness.

VERSE15

Overturned the table means: Jesus cares about His people. The place is no longer conducive for worship.

VERSE17

Zeal for your house has eaten me up means: To the church let us consider the things of God important. To those who are sick let us give importance to them.

OVER ALL MESSAGE:

Let our worship not be a burden to us. But instead, let’s take that as an OPPORTUNITY that brings Blessings over our life. Let us live our life for the Glory of GOD!

Gospel Proclamation: Mark 8: 31-38

Jesus talks about the criteria of following HIM – by putting Him first. A true disciple is the one who follow Jesus.

COST OF FOLLOWING CHRIST

1. Deny ourselves- put Him first over ourselves. Deny our ambition, our plans, our whole being. Deny- means to surrender. As disciple of Christ, we are willing to surrender our life, our will to Him. Before becoming a true Christian or a disciple, we must deny ourselves

2. Carry our Cross- identification with the suffering of Christ. We have to die for ourselves; die everyday for the gospel. We need to live day by day the life of Christ. In our decision we have to follow him daily. This is not a burden. Invest our life for the kingdom of God.

Continue do the following:

1. Giving- this will help us get rid of selfishness

2. Prayer- when we pray, grace works with us; more prayer more grace

3. Fasting- train to deny yourself of something; self control of ourselves.

As a disciple of Jesus, it is a MUST to live the life of Christ .

Old Testament Proclamation: Genesis 9 : 8 – 17

Responsorial Psalm : Psalm 25

New Testament Proclamation: 1 Peter 3 : 18 – 22

Gospel Proclamation: Mark 1 : 9 – 15

God established His covenant with His people. He is the one who initiates His covenant with us, as we acquire through baptism.

In baptism:

1. We become sons of God.

2. We entered into a covenant with God.

3. What belongs to Christ also belongs to us.

God always remembers His covenant with us. That is, he is so mindful and faithful in performing His covenant.

People’s response to God’s covenant is through:

1. Repentance As we repent we acknowledge our total dependence to God. 2. Faith

Whoever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world-our Faith. (1 John 5:4-5)

Our covenant with God assures us the victory in every test we encounter.
