Homily by +Bp. Romie- Jun Peñalosa

In this Sunday Mass Homily at Saint Michael Kalibo, +Bp. Romie-Jun Peñalosa reminds us that life is a journey. This world is not our home – our journey’s destination is eternity with Christ.

We suffer crisis because this world is not our final home. Our journey towards eternity begins today. And when we are on a journey, we need to eat! You need food that will nourish you until you reach your final destination. We need the food that will nourish us until we reach eternity with Jesus.

In the first reading, we learn that the food that God provides will sustain you. God will always provide. Where He guides, He provides. Where He sends, He spends.

The second reading shows Paul telling us that we do not journey alone. He also mentions here bad food – bitterness, hatred, anger – and if this is your food in your journey you will not be able to travel well. You cannot be the best version of yourself if you feed on bitterness and hatred.

In the Gospel, Jesus tells them that He is the Living Bread. Whoever eats this bread will not die. It will allow you to stay connected to the source. We do this by partaking of His word and partaking through the Eucharist. We do this as often as we can so we can have strength and energy in our journey to eternity. Partaking of communion will nourish your spirit and help to sustain a moral and upright life. It will also nourish the virtues that God has placed in us.

So partake of Good Food for your journey and do not eat the food of envy, bitterness, and anger everyday.
